Things to Re-MEME-ber
For a successful school year
Be an advocate for your own learning, and make the best out of every situation! YOU decide how you're going to come to class everyday, and YOU decide your actions for the day. I decide the consequence of those actions.
Cell phones are NOT permitted during class-time. However, if you ask permission prior to an important phone call or an important text- I will usually allow it. That's respect.
All grading, units, and classroom expectations are illustrated on the syllabus and this classroom website! Any homework assignment description, electronic turn-in, or rubric for an assessment can be found on Google Classroom!
Sometimes you get what you put out there... however respect is something I uphold to the utmost degree! I will always treat you with respect, but I will stop the conversation the minute that you decide to be disrespectful to me. Disrespect also includes tone of which I'm being talked to-- not just what you're saying. Being able to talk to someone you disagree with respectfully is a skill you will use throughout your life-time! If you want to be treated like a responsible adult... you need to act like a responsible adult.
Each assessment has a deadline points component. If you do not turn the assessment in on time you will receive a zero for your deadline points. This protects your assessment as I will only be grading your assessment based on your learning targets, and not taking additional points off for being late (meaning you could still get an A if you did it right!).
Being prepared is a life skill that you'll be expected to use for the rest of your life. Especially in the work force! I don't know of any employer that would be happy with someone coming to work unprepared everyday. I have this expectation in my classroom as well! Yes, I understand the occasional "whoops I forgot to charge my computer last night". I get it. It happens. But it shouldn't be a daily thing. I provide a recharging station in my class for your computers, but I will have a talk with you if it becomes habitual. Be responsible!!
Proper grammar is something that we really focus on when it comes to writing papers. At this level in your education you should be well practiced in grammatical corrections or use tools such as Grammarly, and spell check to find your mistakes. I take off quite a few points for those that choose to not check their projects for errors prior to submitting them to me.
OF COURSE SPELLING MATTERS!!! You literally have the capability to change your spelling errors at the tips of your fingers! With that being said... yes, I will take points off for spelling!
I am very specific about what I put on my tests and quizzes. I will always tell you what's going to be on the test, and I do NOT create "trick questions" ever. If you take good notes, fill out the study guides, and actually STUDY, you will pass my class no problem! :)
I LOVE conversation in the classroom- especially during work times, but talking while I'm lecturing or explaining something isn't the best time to do that! One, I get really distracted because I have very good hearing. Two, it distracts others including yourself from hearing what they're supposed to be listening to in the first place! So best practice is to just wait till work time to talk.
